Gaskets Suppliers

A wrong gasket on a high-pressure fuel line leaks at the worst possible moment, and a wrong gasket material in a steam joint hardens before the next docking. Marine gaskets suppliers carry the spiral-wound, kammprofile, sheet, and ring-type joint gaskets that seal every flanged or bolted connection on board, in materials and pressure classes matched to the actual service line rather than to a generic catalogue entry.

Gasket Types Across Marine Service Lines

Marine gasket procurement covers a defined set of types, each matched to a specific service condition:

  • Spiral-wound gaskets - PTFE or graphite filler in a stainless-steel winding for high-pressure flange joints on fuel, steam, and process lines.
  • Kammprofile gaskets - corrugated metal core with graphite facing for steam, heavy-duty bolted joints, and heat exchanger covers.
  • Compressed-fibre and graphite sheet - general flange gaskets cut from sheet stock on board or in workshop; the dominant style on most piping systems.
  • Expanded PTFE gaskets - aggressive chemical cargo on chemical tankers, where graphite and rubber are not chemically compatible.
  • Rubber sheet and cut gaskets - NBR for fuel and lube oil, EPDM for fresh water and steam, FKM/Viton for fuel and hot chemical service.
  • Ring-type joint (RTJ) gaskets - high-pressure offshore and process piping where flange face geometry calls for metal-on-metal sealing.
  • Metal-jacketed gaskets - heat exchanger covers and high-temperature flanges where sheet material will not survive.

Materials Matched to Service Conditions

The fluid, pressure, and temperature combination decides the material. Graphite handles steam and exhaust above 400 degrees Celsius where most other materials carbonise. PTFE is the chemical tanker default for aggressive parcels (acid, caustic, solvents) because almost nothing attacks it. NBR rubber works on fuel and lube oil up to moderate temperature; EPDM covers fresh water and low-pressure steam; FKM/Viton is the upgrade choice for fuel oil at elevated temperature or hot chemical service. Aramid fibre composites have replaced compressed asbestos as the general-purpose sheet material since the asbestos ban, with similar performance and easier handling. Copper crush washers and soft-iron gaskets cover precision sealing on hydraulic and high-pressure fittings where a soft metal compresses into the flange face.

Standards and Pressure Class Compliance

The gasket has to match the flange standard, not the nominal pipe size. European piping built to DIN 2690 or EN 1092-1 carries PN 6, PN 10, PN 16, PN 25, or PN 40 pressure ratings, with dimension tolerances different from ANSI/ASME flanges. American and IACS-standard piping built to ANSI B16.5 takes gaskets dimensioned to B16.21 for non-metallic and B16.20 for ring-joint, in Class 150/300/600/900 ratings. Japanese newbuild tonnage runs JIS B2404 with another dimension set. Fire-safe certification under BS 6755 or API 607 is required on fuel and gas-line gaskets, with documented test results shipped against the part. A serious supplier matches the gasket to the actual flange drawing rather than assuming standard sizing.

Brand Coverage and OEM Channels

Klinger and Garlock dominate the general-purpose compressed-sheet market across most commercial fleets, with Klingersil and Garlock 3000 the workhorses across fuel, water, and lube oil flanges. Flexitallic and Lamons (Frenzelit Werke) lead the high-pressure spiral-wound and kammprofile segment, with reference vessels on LNG carriers and offshore platforms where pressure ratings climb. James Walker and Donit Tesnit cover European industrial applications with specialist material grades. Teadit dominates PTFE-based and aramid sheet on chemical tankers. Vetted ship chandlers carry the major brands as sheet stock with on-site cutting capability, and procurement teams often pair the gasket order with vetted marine expansion joints and flanges suppliers since the flange and the gasket ship as one piping joint.

Sheet Stock, Pre-Cut, and Custom-Cut Procurement

Gasket procurement breaks across three formats. Sheet gasket sold in standard sheets (1500 by 1500 mm is the typical size) lets the vessel crew or workshop cut its own gaskets as service work demands, with the sheet material chosen to match the dominant service condition on board. Pre-cut gaskets for DIN and ANSI flange sizes ship ready to install, which suits planned maintenance where the piping schedule is fixed. Custom-cut gaskets cover non-standard flanges, manhole covers, and one-off applications, with either CNC cutting at the vendor workshop or template-based hand cutting against a drawing the vessel provides. Most multi-product procurement bundles the gasket order with adjacent piping consumables, especially marine fittings suppliers that handle the threaded and welded connections on the same piping runs.

What to Verify When Sourcing Marine Gaskets

When you compare potential vendors, weigh the practical evidence:

  • Material match to service line - graphite for steam, PTFE for chemical, NBR/EPDM/FKM for the right fluid, not catalogue defaults.
  • Pressure class certification - DIN PN rating, ANSI Class rating, or JIS pressure spec documented against each gasket.
  • Fire-safe certification where required - BS 6755 or API 607 test results shipped with fuel and gas-line gaskets.
  • OEM brand availability - Klinger, Garlock, Flexitallic, Teadit on sheet stock; Lamons and Frenzelit on spiral-wound and kammprofile.
  • On-site cutting capability or delivered pre-cut - whether the vendor cuts to the vessel's piping schedule or supplies sheet stock for in-house cutting.

Marine gasket procurement concentrates around a handful of OEM ecosystems (Klinger, Garlock, Flexitallic, Lamons, Teadit) and a small set of material families matched to service conditions across fuel, water, steam, lube oil, and chemical service. Filter the vendors by country, verification, supplier specification, and IACS class approval to find a supplier whose brand range, material coverage, and cutting capability fit the piping schedule and docking window on your specification.
