Marine Greases Suppliers
Greases are the main lubricant for many exposed and heavily loaded components on board. Winches, windlasses, cranes, hatch covers, rudder bearings, wire ropes and countless bearings all rely on the right grease film to resist saltwater, shock loads and vibration. For shipowners, superintendents and shipyards, the practical task is to match each job on board with a suitable product and to work with marine greases suppliers who can support that choice across the fleet.
Marine Greases on Board
On most vessels, you can group grease applications into a few main areas:
- Deck equipment. Anchor and mooring winches, windlasses, cranes, davits, ramps and hatch cover drives need water-resistant, extreme-pressure greases that stay in place under load.
- Wire ropes and open gears. Mooring and crane wires, towing gear, chains and exposed gears require greases with strong adhesion, corrosion protection and good behavior under slow, oscillating movement.
- Bearings in machinery and on deck. Electric motors, sheaves, rollers and general bearings usually use NLGI 2 multipurpose or EP greases, sometimes in softer grades for centralized systems or very cold conditions.
- Rudder and thruster. In these positions, operators increasingly choose environmentally acceptable greases where regulations or charterers expect EAL products.
Behind the product labels, three elements define performance: base oil, thickener and additives. Calcium sulfonate complex and other marine grade thickeners offer strong resistance to wash-off, high load capacity and corrosion protection. Lithium and lithium-complex greases remain common where exposure is less severe. Key properties to check are water resistance, extreme pressure, corrosion protection, mechanical stability under vibration, and how well the grease adheres to metal surfaces over time.
Protecting Deck Gear, Bearings and Wire Ropes with Records Marine
Top marine greases manufacturers can support a complete lubrication map. In practice, buyers usually look at:
- Product range for deck gear, wire ropes, general bearings and underwater points.
- Availability of heavy duty and, where needed, EAL greases that meet environmental expectations.
- Clear technical data on water resistance, load capacity and corrosion protection.
- Any relevant OEM approvals and documentation to support class and internal procedures.
- Stock positions, packaging suited to shipboard use, and basic application guidance.
Records Marine helps bring these pieces together. Within the platform you can identify marine greases distributors by region, brand and product scope, then review their profiles to see how their ranges align with your deck gear, bearings and wire ropes. From there, technical and purchasing teams can contact a focused shortlist directly to standardize greases, plan deliveries to key ports and keep critical equipment properly protected throughout its service life.
