Lifeboats Suppliers

When the emergency signal is given and crews move to muster stations, lifeboats are the link between the ship and the outside help they hope to reach. Seats, shelter, propulsion and basic supplies all have to be ready. SOLAS and the LSA Code define what is needed in terms of capacity, performance and equipment, but it is lifeboats manufacturers who translate those rules into real boats that match each vessel’s layout and service profile. For shipowners, yards and superintendents, the choice of supplier is a long-term safety decision that influences drills, inspections and real responses for many years ahead.

Capacity, Launch Arrangements and Long-Term Service Support for Lifeboats Onboard

Modern fleets work mainly with totally enclosed and free-fall lifeboats, sometimes alongside older open types and dedicated rescue boats. When technical teams compare offers from lifeboats suppliers, they are usually looking at a few practical fundamentals:

  • Capacity and boat type. The number of persons, seating layout and type of lifeboat (conventional, totally enclosed, free-fall) must fit the vessel’s SOLAS requirements and operating profile. Tankers, offshore vessels and passenger ships often have very different needs.
  • Launch and recovery arrangements. Boats have to match the planned davits, winches or free-fall ramps, including stowage height, outreach and clearances. Good lifeboat designs are proven with compatible launching appliances and come with clear documentation for class and flag.
  • Protection, propulsion and equipment. Canopies, ventilation, engine performance, fuel capacity and the standard equipment pack all affect how people will be supported once they have left the ship. Buyers look for lifeboats that are easy to board, simple to secure from inside, and practical to operate in poor weather and low visibility.
  • Service support over the vessel’s life. Lifeboats remain on board for decades, so access to authorized service, spare parts and upgrade options is part of the initial decision. Many lifeboats distributors work with multi-brand service companies to support annual and five-year inspections in line with current IMO requirements.

Seen together, these points help ensure that the lifeboats installed on board are not only approved, but also maintainable and usable for the crew who will train and drill with them.

Comparing Lifeboats Suppliers, Approvals and Support Networks on Records Marine

For buyers, the most time-consuming part is identifying lifeboat supply companies that can deliver approved boats to the right shipyards and ports and continue to support them over time. Strong suppliers are clear about which regulations and flags their products cover, which capacities and configurations they offer, and how their service arrangements are organized. It helps to see experience with similar vessel types - tankers, bulk carriers, offshore units or passenger ships - so you know the lifeboats have been used in comparable conditions.

On Records Marine you can browse a dedicated list of companies supplying lifeboats, use smart filters to narrow it to your needs, and contact selected companies directly to discuss newbuilds, conversions or replacement boats.
