Zhoushan Nanyang Star Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (NASCO Shipyard)

Zhoushan Nanyang Star Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., known as NASCO, repairs ships on Cezi Island in the Dinghai District of Zhoushan, Zhejiang. It is one of the two production bases of Nanyang Star Group, which was founded in April 2004 and has its head office at this yard. The group describes repair and conversion of conventional merchant vessels as its main business, with shipbuilding and offshore engineering equipment set out as directions for expansion rather than as current products. The Cezi Island yard covers 200,000 square metres. Its No. 1 dry dock is rated for vessels of up to 120,000 tonnes and carries a 60-tonne portal crane working to a 43-metre radius and a 30-tonne portal crane working to 40 metres, two 340 kN hauling trolleys, two 200 kN vertical winches, a 2,500 kVA packaged substation and two 300 kVA variable-frequency units; a second and larger dock is under construction. The outfitting quays carry portal cranes of 50 and 30 tonnes with their own packaged substations. Shore support includes hull and mechanical-electrical workshops, carbon dioxide, oxygen and natural gas stations, an air compressor station, a 35 kV 6,300 kVA substation and an oily water treatment plant. The yard suits Panamax bulk carriers, container ships, ro-ro vessels and tankers, states annual capacity of more than a hundred vessels, and works for owners in Germany, Denmark, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Russia and Greece. The published case archive is entirely repair work: recent jobs include the product tankers Torm Thunder and Torm Thames, the bulk carriers AS Valeria and Salaminia, and container ships among them OOCL China and APL California. No newbuilding project is published. The group's second base is Zhoushan Zhongtian Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., known as ZTHI, on Changbai Island in the same district and physically separate from NASCO. It occupies about 67.34 hectares, works two docks rated at 200,000 and 100,000 tonnes and two outfitting quays, and repairs on average about 200 vessels a year for Chinese and foreign owners, among them bulk carriers, container ships, gas carriers, reefers, tankers, chemical tankers and engineering craft.
