Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard Co., Ltd.

Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard builds, repairs and dismantles ships at Dinghai in Zhoushan, Zhejiang, within the Zhoushan Archipelago New Area. It is the core enterprise of the Zhoushan Changhong International Industrial Park, funded by Jiangsu Xin Changjiang Group with total investment of around RMB 4 billion and covering about 1.6 million square metres. Ship dismantling stands beside shipbuilding and ship repair as one of five business lines the company sets out for itself, and the yard works seven docks in all. Newbuilding is concentrated on container ships. Recent activity includes the start of construction of a first 5,300 TEU vessel and orders for four more of that size, the fourth ship of a 3,100 TEU series and a further hull of the same type, the fourth of a 2,500 TEU series, and delivery of the second of an 1,800 TEU series. Gas carrier work includes delivery of a second 7,500 cubic metre LNG transport and bunkering vessel. Recycling is carried out in dock rather than on a beach. Two of the yard's docks are given over to dismantling, and vessels are drained of residual oil and stripped of asbestos, battery lead and sulphuric acid before cutting begins. By an account the company published at the start of 2016 it had dismantled 11 foreign drilling platforms and drilling ships and 9 domestic vessels, more than 210,000 light displacement tons in total. A floating drilling platform has also been broken up here.
