Sefine Shipyard

Sefine Shipyard sits at Hersek in the Altinova district of Yalova, on the Sea of Marmara, on its own land outside the administered Altinova shipyard estate. It was established in 2007, covers 250,000 square metres and employs more than 6,000 people including subcontractor personnel. Its business is newbuilding, ship maintenance, repair and conversion, and the fabrication of large steel structures. Two docking structures are licensed to the yard in the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure register of dry and floating docks: a dry dock, and a floating dock built in 1971 with a licensed lifting capacity of 36,857 tonnes. The dry dock is Post-Panamax and takes vessels of up to 90,000 DWT; the floating dock takes Aframax tonnage of up to 120,000 DWT. A slipway is worked alongside them. Lifting equipment includes two 200 tonne gantry cranes standing 64 metres high, a dry dock jib crane lifting 40 tonnes at 35 metres, and a block transporter of 320 tonnes. Newbuilding covers general cargo vessels, double-ended car and passenger ferries, offshore vessels, search and rescue craft, anchor handling tugs, tugboats and live fish carriers, with design engineering carried out in house. The first series were general cargo vessels of 13,000, 16,500 and 26,000 DWT delivered to a Dutch owner between 2010 and 2012, together with four double-ended 80-car ferries for a Turkish operator in the same period. Later work includes a 3,900 cubic metre live fish carrier and the conversion of a bulk carrier into a cement carrier, in which ten metres were taken out of the parallel body. On the steel structures side the yard fabricated 17,000 tonnes over sixteen months from 2013 for the south approach viaduct of the Istanbul to Izmir motorway. Revenue tripled between 2012 and 2015, and in 2016 the company was placed fortieth in the Turkish chambers union's ranking of the hundred fastest growing companies.
