Santierul Naval Constanta S.A.

Santierul Naval Constanta S.A., which also trades as Constanta Shipyard, builds, repairs and converts sea-going vessels at Constanta on the Romanian Black Sea coast. The yard is reached from the sea through the Bosphorus and from inland Europe by river through the Danube-Black Sea Canal. Its records run back to those of the Ministry for Public Works in 1892. Docking capacity is unusual in being interchangeable. Dry dock no. 1 takes vessels of up to 200,000 dwt and is served by two 480-tonne cranes and one of 120 tonnes; dry dock no. 2 takes up to 140,000 dwt, with two 120-tonne cranes and one of 50 tonnes. Either dry dock can be assigned to repair or to newbuilding as the workload requires, and each can be divided by an intermediate gate so that a newbuilding and a repair proceed in the same dock at once, subject to vessel size. Two floating docks take 40,000 and 15,000 dwt, with two 15-tonne cranes on the larger and two 8-tonne cranes on the smaller. Newbuildings have ranged from a 1,100 dwt chemical tanker to Aframax and Suezmax tankers and Capesize bulk carriers, and in type from steel pontoons to LPG and ammonia carriers and platform supply vessels. Repair berths take vessels drawing up to 8 metres. The yard works to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.
