San Giorgio del Porto

San Giorgio del Porto is a ship repair and conversion yard in the port of Genoa, founded there in 1928. It belongs to the Genova Industrie Navali group and works with its French sister yard Chantier Naval de Marseille; between them the two sites run eight dry docks and jobs are coordinated across both. Repair, conversion and refit are the core of the business. The yard takes passenger and cruise ships, offshore units, LNG and LPG carriers, general commercial tonnage, naval vessels and large yachts, and its own project archive lists around 44 named jobs between January 2011 and February 2026 across those six categories. Surface preparation is done in house, with hydroblasting at pressures up to 3,000 bar. Management systems are certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018. Ship recycling is an authorised activity rather than a sideline. The yard holds ISO 30000:2009 certification for ship recycling management and is named on the European List of approved ship recycling facilities, reproduced in Part B of the United Kingdom list published by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. That authorisation records a working method of alongside and dry dock dismantling, a maximum output of 56,414 LDT a year, and a largest permitted vessel of 350 metres length, 75 metres beam and 130,000 gross tons; the entry ran to 6 June 2023. Newbuilding runs alongside as a smaller line. The yard built the 5,000 cubic metre LNG bunkering vessel Green Heart, delivered on 30 June 2025, and the 7,500 cubic metre LNG bunkering tanker Green Pearl, built together with Gas and Heat S.p.A. and in service at Genoa from January 2026.
