Remontowa Shiprepair Yard S.A.
Remontowa Shiprepair Yard S.A. repairs, converts and modernises ships and offshore units on the island of Ostrow in Gdansk. It was founded on 7 November 1952 and privatised in 2001 through a management buyout from the Polish State Treasury. It trades as the joint-stock company Gdanska Stocznia "Remontowa" im. J. Pilsudskiego S.A. and is one of 26 companies in Remontowa Holding; newbuilding is not done here but by the sister company Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A., also in Gdansk. The yard employs 1,757 people, works with 2,100 cooperating firms and handles on average 200 ships a year, up to the largest able to enter the Baltic.
The site covers 850,000 square metres and includes 133,500 square metres of production halls, with 24 cranes lifting up to 300 tonnes. The quays run along the Kaszubski Canal and the Dead Vistula, 3,500 metres of that frontage fully serviced. Six docks are in use, numbered 1 to 6, lifting 6,400, 3,200, 15,000, 9,000, 25,000 and 36,000 tonnes and docking vessels of 8,000, 4,000, 50,000, 18,000, 85,000 and 135,000 deadweight tonnes; dock cranage runs from 50 tonnes on the two smallest to a pair of 25-tonne cranes on the largest. Two heavy-lift barges are also operated, Rem Lift 25000 and Rem Lift 24000, of 25,000 and 24,000 tonnes deadweight, with deck areas of 5,280 and 4,320 square metres and a deck load of 15 tonnes per square metre.
Work covers ferries, tankers of all types, car carriers, container ships, reefers, bulk carriers, ro-ro tonnage and naval vessels, including rebuilding after collision and fire. Ballast water treatment and scrubber installation is a distinct line, as is EEXI and decarbonisation work: propeller and rudder retrofits, replacement of the bulbous bow with one fabricated at the yard, dual-fuel and diesel-to-methanol conversion, rotor sails, Mewis ducts and pre-swirl stators. Conversions take conventional tankers into FPSOs, FSOs, well stimulation vessels, heavy lift and cable vessels, shuttle tankers and DP2 and DP3 units, and extend to ro-pax ferries and to MPSV, PSV and AHTS offshore vessels. The yard has serviced rigs and platforms since 2000; the conversion of the FPF1 production platform included building a refinery installation on board. Projects are taken turnkey, from pre-survey and 3D scanning through design and prefabrication to installation.
