Rauma Marine Constructions

Rauma Marine Constructions is a Finnish shipbuilder at Rauma. The legal entity is Rauma Marine Constructions Oy and the site it runs is Rauma Shipyard; RMC is only an abbreviation of the company name. Newbuilding is the core business, in naval vessels, passenger and car ferries and ice-class ships, and the whole process runs in house from steel cutting to commissioning. Repair and conversion are offered as life-cycle services, using the dry dock, the shipyard cranes and the workshops, but they are the secondary line. Hull erection happens indoors, which is what allows work to continue through a Finnish winter. Two covered facilities each take two hulls at a time; one is served by cranes of 260 and 200 tonnes, the other by three of 150 tonnes. Upstream, steel storage of 1,400 square metres handles plate up to 3.5 by 12.5 metres with rail, road and sea access, and steel production occupies 23,600 square metres, running an automatic profile cutting line for 60 to 340 millimetre sections, an automated T-beam line with induction straightening, plate rollers and presses to 1,000 tonnes, and plasma cutting with bevelling for plate from 4 to 90 millimetres. Block work is equally itemised. Twenty-five cell slots with 100-tonne cranes allow combined lifts to 300 tonnes; three climate-controlled painting halls totalling 2,500 square metres take blocks up to 30 by 29 by 12 metres; a multi-purpose hall of 7,430 square metres lifts 460 tonnes; and block outfitting uses multi-wheeler platforms carrying up to 420 tonnes. Launching is not confined to the dock. A heavy-duty ramp 30 metres wide is rated at 5,000 tonnes and a semi-submersible barge at 11,000 tonnes. Both outfitting quays carry energy connections and load banks for commissioning generators.
