Peene-Werft is a naval shipyard at Wolgast on Germany's Baltic coast, building and repairing vessels for the German Navy, coastguard services and other government operators. It has been in operation since 1948 and employs more than 330 newbuilding and repair specialists. The yard is one of four in NVL, which has become part of Rheinmetall as its Division Naval Systems; the sister yards are Blohm+Voss in Hamburg for newbuilding, and Norderwerft in Hamburg and Neue Jadewerft in Wilhelmshaven for repair and refit, and commercial repair enquiries are routed to Norderwerft.
The Wolgast site covers more than 250,000 square metres, of which 46,500 square metres are covered halls, and has an outfitting quay running the length of the waterfront. Facilities are one dry dock and a ship lift hoisting up to 3,000 tonnes. A large shipbuilding hall connects directly to the dock and hall 4 to the ship lift, so two production lines run in parallel; alongside them are further shipbuilding and prefabrication halls, a pipe prefabrication shop, an outfitting workshop, two warehouses, a repair and refit centre, a mechanical and special repair workshop and a training centre, with the marine centre standing more than 44 metres high.
Two flame-cutting machines allow aluminium and steel to be cut at the same time, and the panel line, including micro panels, has been modernised. The yard works in aluminium, non-magnetic materials and stainless steel as well as conventional shipbuilding steel, and runs its own welding school approved by DVS and TUV Nord. Repair, maintenance and refit are available around the clock, and the Konstruktionsbuero Ost design office is based at the yard. Recent newbuilding work includes the aft sections of the German Navy's K130 corvettes, alongside tenders, mine countermeasures vessels and coastguard craft.
