ONEX Neorion Syros Shipyards

ONEX Syros Shipyards runs the Neorion yard at Ermoupoli on the island of Syros. Neorion was founded at Ermoupoli in 1861 and was the start of modern shipbuilding and heavy industry in Greece. ONEX Group took over the management of the yard, not its ownership, in 2018 and began a modernisation programme; the same group took over the management of the Elefsina yard in 2022. Two floating dry docks work at Neorion. The one lifting figure given for the site is a synchrolift of 2,500 tonnes, installed for yacht work, which takes vessels of up to 100 metres. Group work covers major conversions, upgrades and modifications and energy transition retrofits including ballast water treatment systems, scrubbers and carbon capture, alongside ship design and construction. A tugboat programme runs with the naval architects Robert Allan for RAstar 2800 escort and terminal tugs of at least 85 tonnes bollard pull, with FiFi1 notation, IMO Tier III compliance, ATEX compliance for LNG and LPG environments and oil recovery capability. Agreements are in place with Attica Group for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, environmental upgrade programmes and newbuilding, and with the Algerian state passenger line ENTMV for fleet maintenance, scrubber and carbon capture installation and green retrofits. The integrated management system is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001 and ISO 27001. These are group-level commitments and ONEX does not state which of them are carried out at Syros.
