MMS Ship Repair & Dry Dock Co Ltd

MMS Ship Repair & Dry Dock Co. Ltd is a ship repair yard in the north east corner of Alexandra Dock at Hull, East Yorkshire. It was established in 1988 and has dry docked more than 1,200 ships and carried out more than 10,000 individual repair contracts. The company works two dry docks and two repair berths in Alexandra Dock, on land and in docks belonging to the port administration. The berths are non-tidal, so a vessel lies safely moored for the whole of a repair. All four positions have shore power, fresh and ballast water, sewage and waste oil collection, cranage, access platforms and forklift trucks, with dock lighting in the dry docks as well. Fabrication, engineering, machine and carpentry workshops stand close to both dry docks, and a newbuild construction hall measures 30 by 10 metres with 11 metres of headroom. Each vessel is given a secure stores compound, and the superintendents' office has wireless internet and undercover parking. Woodward's Propellers was acquired in November 2024 together with its staff and equipment, so propellers are now repaired and supplied in house. Newbuilding runs under the MMS Workboats name and has produced the Envirocat Eco 8.5, an all-electric craft for aquaculture and inland waters, and the MMS Off-Roader inland waterway barge. Every job is overseen by one shipyard manager from start to finish, quotations are given as detailed fixed prices, and emergent work is carried out only on the ship representative's authority. The workforce is directly employed and the welders are coded. The company is certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
