MALAYSIA MARINE & HEAVY ENGINEERING (MMHE)

Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering, MMHE, runs the West and East Yards at Pasir Gudang in Johor and a third site at Bukit Rambai in Melaka. The operating company is Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn. Bhd., under the listed Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Berhad. Two lines of business run side by side: heavy engineering for the offshore energy industry, and marine repair and upgrading. Three dry docks serve the repair business, rated at 450,000, 400,000 and 140,000 dwt, together with a shiplift for vessels up to 50,000 dwt and seven repair quays at an average depth of 7 metres at chart datum. The West Yard quay has 10.5 metres of water at lowest astronomical tide and the East Yard 10.0 metres. Liquefied gas carrier work has its own facilities: a cryogenic workshop of 740 square metres, an Invar welding centre, acoustic and helium testing equipment, a mobile cargo tank monitoring console and a nitrogen inerting plant. Further workshops are planned beside dry dock 3. Vessels handled range from LNG and LPG carriers, floating production and storage units and VLCCs to jack-ups, semi-submersibles, offshore support and construction vessels, dredgers, car carriers, ro-ros, passenger ships and naval vessels. The fabrication side has an annual capacity of 129,700 tonnes on a yard area of 2,005,539 square metres, figures the operator gives for the yards together and does not split. Load-out runs over skid tracks and bulkheads rated at 55,000, 40,000, 12,000 and 5,000 tonnes at the West Yard and 25,000, 15,000, 15,000 and 5,000 tonnes at the East Yard, with a finger pier for units up to 390,000 dwt. Lifting equipment includes two 600-tonne Goliath cranes, four 250-tonne crawler cranes, nine 50-tonne rough terrain cranes, seventeen luffing cranes up to 80 tonnes and 134 overhead and gantry cranes. Offshore construction covers fixed, wellhead and central processing platforms, deepwater platforms, jackets, floating production facilities and pre-assembled units and racks for onshore plants. Delivered projects include the 39,000-tonne Gumusut-Kakap semi-submersible floating production system and the Malikai tension leg platform of the same weight for Sabah Shell Petroleum, the 15,908-tonne Kikeh truss spar for Murphy Sabah Oil, the 20,869-tonne Tapis enhanced oil recovery project for ExxonMobil and SK316 at 33,251 tonnes for Petronas Carigali. In hand are the solar-powered unmanned Rosmari-Marjoram platform for Sarawak Shell, the 15,000-tonne SK408W Jerun development for SapuraOMV, five platforms for Carigali-PTTEPI and wellhead platforms for Vestigo Petroleum. Carbon capture, offshore wind, hydrogen and ammonia facilities are newer lines, and in April 2026 the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Hanwha Power Systems on newbuilding projects.
