Labuan Shipyard & Engineering

Labuan Shipyard & Engineering Sdn Bhd builds and repairs ships and fabricates oil and gas structures on 60 acres inside the port of Victoria Harbour on Labuan island, Malaysia. Alongside shipbuilding and ship repair it takes offshore fabrication and civil engineering work, and it handles vessels of up to 16,000 deadweight tonnes. There is no graving dock and no floating dock. The only docking structure is a Syncrolift shiplift rated at 7,000 tonnes, and two dedicated repair berths take work afloat. Fabricated structures leave the site over two load-out skidways rated at 12,000 and 3,000 tonnes, discharging across two load-out quays of the same two ratings. Annual fabrication output is 24,000 tonnes. Covered fabrication runs to eight bays, the two largest of 6,250 and 5,800 square metres with the remaining six covering 9,100 square metres between them. Open fabrication adds 16,625 square metres beside the stock yard, and storage runs to a 3,600 square metre main warehouse, a 5,750 square metre open stock yard and three project stores totalling 2,832 square metres. Lifting is by a 250-tonne crawler crane, the largest mobile unit on site, with overhead cranes in the bays from 10 to 50 tonnes. Bollard pull testing is done on site to a maximum pulling load of 200 tonnes, for vessels with engines up to 12,000 horsepower, in 12 metres of water.
