Kishorn Port & Dry Dock

Kishorn Port & Dry Dock is a port and dry dock at Kishorn, Strathcarron, on the west coast of Scotland. It is run by Kishorn Port Ltd, a fifty-fifty joint venture between Ferguson Transport (Spean Bridge) Ltd and Leiths (Scotland) Ltd, and the site covers 45 hectares. This is not a conventional ship repair yard, and the operator's own service menu says so: decommissioning, oil and gas, floating offshore wind manufacture and assembly, drilling rig life extension and upgrade, renewables, cranage and materials handling, warehousing, shipping agency, extensive lay-down area and concrete batching from the quarry on site. None of the classic repair trades appears in it. What brings work here is one of the largest dry docks in Europe and the deep water in front of it. Four quays are in use, named the Dry Dock Quay, Quay 1 or East Quay in Area 7, Quay 2 the piled pier, and Quay 3 or West Quay in Area 5, with three offshore dolphin structures alongside. Water depth runs from 7.7 to 13.8 metres at mean high water springs and from 3.1 to 9.2 metres at mean low water springs, and the berths take vessels of up to about 100 metres and 3,500 deadweight tonnes. Five warehouses of 52 by 22.5 metres hold 8,000 pallets. Recycling is a licensed activity rather than a sideline. Kishorn Port Ltd holds a waste management licence from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency for the decommissioning of offshore oil and gas assets, and dismantling is done in the dry dock. Structures handled there include the jack-up rig Noble Intrepid in 2023 and the Northern Producer in 2024.
