IKI Shipyard

IKI Shipyard is the Makassar yard of PT Industri Kapal Indonesia (Persero), a state-owned Indonesian company in South Sulawesi. The government designates it the centre of the maritime industry for eastern Indonesia. It both builds ships and repairs them. This entry covers the Makassar unit alone. The company runs a second unit at Bitung in North Sulawesi, on a different island, which specialises in large-ship repair and dry docking for vessels above 10,000 deadweight tonnes. Newbuilding stays at Makassar, which also handles the smaller docking jobs itself. Docking at Makassar is spread across facilities the operator codes M1 to M7: a graving dock, longitudinal and transverse slipways, and airbag docking. Two quays serve them, taking vessels of up to 7,000 and 10,000 tonnes at water depths of 9 and 10 metres. Building and repair slots are booked through a dock availability tool on the company's own site, which separates the Makassar and Bitung facilities into their own tabs and publishes the booking procedure alongside them.
