Huanghai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.

Huanghai Shipbuilding builds ships at Shidao, in the Shidao Management District of Rongcheng, on the Shandong coast of north-east China. The yard dates from 1944. Ro-ro passenger ferries are its signature product; it also builds multipurpose heavy-lift vessels, container ships, government law-enforcement craft and deep-sea fishing vessels, and it is among the first 51 Chinese enterprises assessed as meeting the national shipbuilding normative conditions. Throughput is substantial. More than 30 vessels were in build at once in mid-2024, with the production plan then booked into the second half of 2026. Three 1,800 TEU container ships were delivered on 20 March, 31 May and 14 June 2024, one of them 171.9 metres long and 24,000 tonnes deadweight, and a contract for two firm and two optional 50,000 tonne MR product tankers was signed on 30 April 2024. A 62,000 tonne multipurpose heavy-lift vessel was named and delivered in January 2026. Pulp carriers of 201.8 metres have also been built here. The best-documented reference is the ro-pax ferry Huadong Pearl VIII, ordered in November 2013 and delivered on 29 September 2016. She measures 34,722 gross tons at 196.27 metres by 28.6 metres, carries 1,500 passengers and 88 crew with about 2,100 lane metres of vehicle deck, and works for Rongcheng Huadong Ferry between Shidao and Incheon in South Korea. Output value was 3.5 billion yuan in 2023 and passed 6 billion yuan in 2025. The order book stood at about 8 billion yuan in mid-2024 and above 20 billion yuan in January 2026.
