HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding works at My Giang in Dong Ninh Hoa, Khanh Hoa province, on Vietnam's south-central coast. It was set up as a joint venture yard on 16 October 1996 and opened on 26 April 1999. Its first business was repair and conversion, and more than 900 ships passed through before newbuilding began in 2008 and the yard switched entirely to newbuilding in 2011; repair is no longer offered. The name became Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding in 2020 and HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding in 2024. Registered capital is 33,456,938 US dollars and about 5,000 people work there, including Korean specialists.
Two building docks carry the programme. The smaller takes vessels of up to 80,000 DWT and is served by cranes of 350 and 250 tonnes; the larger takes up to 400,000 DWT with cranes of 700, 250, 150 and 80 tonnes. Three outfitting quays follow, each with 8 metres of water alongside and 30 tonne cranes. Plant includes 146 workshop units, 76 cranes in all, ten plasma cutting sets, two CNC sets, three presses and five transporters. A seventh building was inaugurated in May 2026, and annual capacity was raised to 1,440,000 deadweight tonnes in 2025.
The standard products are product and chemical tankers of 39,000 to 75,000 DWT and bulk carriers of 37,000 to 87,000 DWT, and since 2023 deliveries have run past that range with tankers of 110,000 and 115,000 DWT. The hundredth ship, Marlin Mystery, was delivered in 2019. Output went from two vessels in 2009 to twelve to sixteen a year through the 2010s and seventeen in 2025. Owners that have taken series from the yard include d'Amico, Central Mare, Thenamaris, Norden, Mitsui, Fukujin Kisen, Wilmar, Bahri, Elandra, Metrostar, Asiatic Lloyd, Pan Ocean, Sumitomo, Geden, E.R.S and Hyundai Merchant Marine.
Certification covers ISO 9001:2015 for quality, ISO 14001:2015 for environment, ISO 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety, and ISO 3834-2 for welding. The yard holds a Third Class Labour Order from the President of Vietnam awarded in 2005, provincial enterprise prizes from the Khanh Hoa People's Committee in every year from 2020 to 2024, and a place among the top ten foreign-invested enterprises in 2024.
