Hat-San Shipyard builds, repairs and converts ships in the shipyard zone at Altinova, Yalova, on the Sea of Marmara. It is an affiliate of Pekar Group, which held interests in mining, construction, foreign trade and energy before deciding in 2006 to invest in shipbuilding; construction of the yard began in 2007. Floating docks are both a product the yard sells and the means by which it has enlarged its own repair capacity. The first delivery, in 2008, was a 1,500 DWT bunker tanker for Turkish owners, and repair work began in 2013 on a 10,000-tonne floating dock the yard had built for itself.
A floating dock was delivered to the Turkish Navy in 2020 and a 10,000-tonne dock to a Danish owner in the same year; a further 10,000-tonne dock went to Estonian owners in 2024, and a 900-tonne dock was contracted for French owners. For its own use the yard completed the Panamax dock HULK, rated at 25,000 tonnes lifting capacity, and in 2024 started a 19,000-tonne Panamax dock, again for its own repair and maintenance work, with delivery planned for late 2025.
Newbuilding has included a series of purse seiners and trawlers for Norwegian owners from 2012, a 55-tonne bollard pull icebreaking tug in 2018, three live fish carriers of 4,000 cubic metres between 2020 and 2022 and one of 5,000 cubic metres in 2022, and two energy barges for a Turkish client under construction through 2025. Conversion work includes the powership Karadeniz Powership Osman Khan, delivered in 2016, and the lengthening of the barge AMT Commander in 2021, which involved installing five megablocks. The building berths are served by gantry cranes of 150 and 35 tonnes, the piers by a 300-tonne gantry crane, an 85-tonne crane and smaller jib cranes, and each floating dock by two 20-tonne cranes. Covered areas run to 4,500 square metres of block production, a 4,200 square metre mechanical and pipe workshop, 4,500 square metres of warehousing and 700 square metres of outfitting and insulation shops, with a paint hall that takes megablocks of up to 28 by 18 metres for blasting and painting. Open steel storage covers 5,000 square metres, and a second site, Hat-San 2, adds 7,200 square metres of workshop with three CNC cutting machines and two bending presses.
Certification covers ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001/45001 issued by ClassNK, a Certificate of Firm Conformity from the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping covering both construction and repair and conversion, and welding procedures approved by Bureau Veritas. The yard holds a Facility Security Certificate issued by NATO, Euro-Atlantic defence industry bodies and the Turkish Ministry of Defence. Hat-San was listed on Borsa Istanbul in September 2023, the first shipyard on the Turkish stock market.
