GMC Yard AS is the docking arm of GMC, a Norwegian industrial group, and works from Buoy in Stavanger. It docks vessels for class renewal, modification, scheduled maintenance and repair. It does not build ships.
Two dry docks are in service, and both are fitted with an azimuth pit, so thruster and propulsion work can be done with the vessel in dock. Cranes along the dock sides lift 330 tonnes. Behind them are machinery and welding halls, production halls for prefabrication and further workshops, covering steel and welding work, mechanical, electrical and automation systems, surface treatment and propeller assignments.
The yard is one site in a group that runs further bases around the Stavanger region. The quays at Mekjarvik, Hinna, Gismarvik and Hilleren belong to those bases and not to the Buoy shipyard, which is worth knowing when comparing published quay figures for GMC.
