Gisan Shipyard is a shipbuilding and ship repair yard at Tuzla in Istanbul. The business began in 1960 as a workshop at Halic and moved all of its operations to Tuzla in 1982. More than 50 ships have been built and more than 300 repaired since then.
The site covers 18,066 square metres, of which 4,938 square metres are enclosed and 13,128 square metres open. One floating dock, lifting 8,000 tonnes, carries repair and conversion work, and two building slipways serve newbuilding.
Slipway gantries of 150 and 120 tonnes head the lifting plant, with six further gantry cranes from 25 tonnes up to two of 75 tonnes, three overhead travelling cranes of 6, 10 and 20 tonnes, two 10-tonne jib cranes on rails on the floating dock, rail-mounted tower cranes of 10 and 15 tonnes along the quay and two quay cranes of 10 and 30 tonnes. Four hydraulic platforms and four cherry pickers serve access work. Steel is cut on a CNC plate line and formed on 450-tonne vertical, 400-tonne box and 180-tonne eccentric presses. Installed transformer capacity is 7,350 kVA with a 550 kVA generator, and compressed air comes from two compressors of 45 cubic metres a minute and one of 22.
Steel processing capability is 28,747 tonnes a year with 508 people including subcontractors. Ship repair capacity is 400,000 deadweight tonnes a year across 40 to 50 vessels, with about 1,800 tonnes of steel renewed and 180,000 square metres painted each year at a rate of 760 square metres a day.
