German Naval Yards Kiel GmbH designs and builds large naval vessels, among them frigates, corvettes and offshore patrol vessels, in the Kiel-Gaarden district of Kiel on the Kiel Fjord. Shipbuilding on the site dates from 1838, and the company originates in the surface shipbuilding division of Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH. It belongs to the CMN NAVAL group, alongside the French yard CMN at Cherbourg and Isherwoods, a British company specialising in integrated logistic support. The trading name on the group's website is German Naval Yards; the Kiel entity is German Naval Yards Kiel GmbH.
The site covers more than 250,000 square metres, of which more than 50,000 square metres are covered sheds. There are two dry docks, the mega dock served by two cantilever cranes of up to 50 tonnes with a floating crane available on request, and a second, covered dock likewise served by two cantilever cranes of up to 50 tonnes. Outfitting takes place at two piers, one of them carrying a 50-tonne cantilever crane. Around 60 cranes work the yard, including a portal crane lifting up to 900 tonnes, and berths offer shore power, communications, fresh water, cooling water and ballast water.
Alongside naval newbuilding the yard builds large non-military vessels and offers maintenance and overhaul, conversion, repair and integrated logistic support, working with large prefabricated sections on highly automated plant. In March 2026 it contracted the hull and superstructure construction of a superyacht of more than 100 metres.
