Fujian Southeast Shipbuilding Co., Ltd
Fujian Southeast Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. builds ships in the Mawei Economic and Technological Development Zone at Fuzhou, inside the free trade zone pilot area. It was formed in 1956 as the Fujian fishing-vessel repair and building works, was taken up as a national Seventh Five-Year Plan project in 1971 and rebuilt and expanded, and was renamed Fujian Southeast Shipyard in 1998 on provincial government approval before being reorganised as a limited company. It is a state-owned enterprise under the Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group, which now trades as Fujian Chuanzheng. The plant moved to Mawei when the Fuzhou Jiangbin Road redevelopment displaced its original site, absorbing the provincial marine fisheries enterprise shipyard in the process. The site covers more than 200,000 square metres, registered capital is 773 million yuan and the workforce is more than 500.
Output has included cargo ships of the 5,000-tonne class and below, multipurpose container ships, fishing vessels, barges, engineering and work vessels, tourist vessels including craft built in historic styles, high-horsepower tugs and tankers; the product catalogue also lists bulk carriers, offshore engineering vessels and ro-ro vessels. From 1985 the yard built refrigerated fishing vessels and 1,000-tonne cargo ships for export to West Africa, and widened its range from 1990. Vessels have gone to Japan, Singapore, South Korea, France, Malaysia, West Africa, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
In July 2026 the yard completed a five-day sea trial of hull DN517-11, an 18,500 DWT oil and chemical tanker of 149.8 metres length overall, 22.8 metres moulded breadth and 12.7 metres moulded depth, built at the company's Guanhai base. The vessel carries crude oil, petroleum products of density below 1.54 tonnes per cubic metre and IMO Type II and Type III chemicals under MARPOL Annex I and the IBC Code; the main engine and generating sets have selective catalytic reduction meeting IMO Tier III, and the hull is built to ice class 1C. It is the last of a series of 18,500 DWT oil and chemical tankers built in batches.
The company holds ISO 9001 certification under a UKAS-accredited quality management system certificate.
