Estaleiro Atlantico Sul, EAS, is a Brazilian yard inside the Governador Eraldo Gueiros port and industrial complex at Suape, in Ipojuca, Pernambuco. It builds large vessels and steel structures, repairs and converts ships and platforms, and recycles them. The site covers 1,069,960 square metres, of which 109,841 square metres is workshop, 11,835 square metres storage and 8,325 square metres spray booth.
The yard has one dry dock and one quay. The dock is watertight to a standard that allows total environmental control, can carry out double docking, takes VLCCs of up to 380 metres and is the only dock in the north-east of Brazil able to dock an FPSO; the operator ranks it second largest in Brazil and first in the country for lifting capacity. Two 35 tonne and two 50 tonne ZPMC cranes at 60 metres serve it, and two Goliath gantries of 1,500 tonnes safe working load each give a combined lifting capacity of 2,700 tonnes at 100 metres of height over a 164 metre span, enough to lift directly from barges and vessels in front of the dock gate. The quay has two berths for vessels of up to 280 metres LOA, two 35 tonne cranes and lashing capacity for up to four platforms.
The main workshop has installed capacity of 100,000 tonnes of steel a year. It holds nine oxy-fuel and plasma cutting machines, a marking machine, a plate bending roll able to form plate up to 70 mm thick, a 500 tonne press, overhead cranes of 30, 45 and 150 tonnes, and a panel line taking panels of up to 70 tonnes. The pipe workshop has two 15 tonne overhead cranes and capacity for 250 tonnes of spools a month. An 80,000 square metre erection area has an impermeable floor rated at 25 tonnes per square metre and is served by two 35 tonne and two 50 tonne rail cranes. Warehousing is under ERP stock control and includes a climate-controlled cabin for electronics, an explosion-proof store for paints and chemicals, and an oven for welding consumables.
The delivery record is the yard's own and runs from 2010 to 2019: ten Suezmax tankers for Transpetro's PROMEF programme, from Joao Candido, the first ship built here, to Abdias Nascimento, each 274 metres LOA and carrying up to 157,000 tonnes of crude; and five Aframaxes, from Castro Alves, the first Aframax built in Brazil, to Portinari, of about 249 metres and up to 114,000 tonnes. Offshore work has been partial scope rather than complete units: module assembly and system integration on FPSO P-62, and the lower hull of platform P-55, later integrated with its upper deck. The build offering covers bulk carriers, container ships, FPSOs and relief vessels, together with large metal structures such as underwater riser buoys, jackets and wind towers. Recycling is offered under a Vessel Recycling Plan drawn up in line with European decommissioning regulation, covering NORM handling and class I and II decommissioning waste, with waterproof flooring and environmental containment throughout the yard.
