Dales Marine Services (Greenock)
Dales Marine Services Ltd is a Scottish ship repair and marine engineering company; the site in this profile is its Greenock yard at James Watt Dock on the Clyde. The company has traded for more than thirty years, works from five Scottish ports with five dry docks between them, and has its head office in Aberdeen. Access is available around the clock through the year.
Greenock has a single graving dock and a wet berth. Work covers dry docking, fabrication and structural steelwork, repair and maintenance, vessel mobilisation and demobilisation, mechanical engineering, lay-up and support, ballast water management system installation and conversions. Customers come from the maritime, oil and gas, offshore renewables, aquaculture, commercial, defence, chemicals and power generation sectors.
The new-build side of the business is design work: naval architecture, draughting and owner's representative support. No vessel type is evidenced as built at Greenock, and the one newbuilding the company names was built at another of its sites.
Vessel decommissioning is carried out in dry dock. The single Dales Marine entry on the United Kingdom list of approved ship recycling facilities is for the company's Imperial Dry Dock site at Leith, with dry dock and wet berth as the approved method; the Greenock site does not appear on that list.
