Colombo Dockyard PLC

Colombo Dockyard PLC is a ship repair, shipbuilding, heavy engineering and offshore engineering yard inside the Port of Colombo. It was established in 1974 and marked its fiftieth year in 2024. Work is taken both in dry dock and afloat. Four graving docks are in service, one of them subdividing into two chambers. The largest takes vessels of up to 125,000 DWT and is served by 70 tonnes of cranage. The two chambers of dock 1 share 160 tonnes of cranage, the larger rated 30,000 DWT and the smaller given over to shipbuilding. Dock 2, also used for shipbuilding, is rated 9,000 DWT with 160 tonnes of cranage, and dock 3 is rated 8,000 DWT with 20 tonnes. The largest dock handles tankers, bulk carriers and offshore drill rigs. The 30,000 DWT chamber takes feeders and trampers working regional routes, and the smaller docks take offshore support vessels, naval vessels, trawlers and work boats. More than 200 vessels are handled in a normal year, over 100 of them in dry dock and the rest alongside.
