China Shipbuilding Group Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding builds and repairs ships at Haixi Bay in the Qingdao Economic and Technical Development Zone, Shandong. The company dates itself from 1898 and is a directly managed second-tier unit of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. It was renamed from Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry to its present CSSC name in November 2021, and the short form Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding remains in wide use. Shipbuilding is the core business, with ship repair, offshore engineering, special craft and special equipment run alongside it, and the company is named as chain leader of Shandong province's offshore equipment industry chain and of Qingdao's intelligent equipment industry chain. Three building docks and two repair docks are in service. The building docks are rated at 500,000, 300,000 and 300,000 dwt, and the repair docks at 300,000 and 150,000 dwt, the smaller of that pair also used for offshore work. The site covers 3.2 million square metres, employed about 3,300 people in 2026, and annual capacity has been raised from 3 to 4.68 million dwt. Newbuilding centres on large bulk carriers and ore carriers, running up to very large ore carriers of 400,000 tonnes, and on tankers to 319,000-tonne VLCCs. Offshore and specialised work has covered intelligent aquaculture vessels, a semi-submersible heavy-lift vessel, a floating production, storage and offloading unit and a floating dock of 100,000 tonnes. The company has held high and new technology enterprise status for more than ten years and holds the national green factory and green supply chain management titles. A national offshore engineering research and experiment centre and a provincially recognised enterprise technology centre are based at the company.
