Chantier Naval de Marseille
Chantier Naval de Marseille (CNdM) is a ship repair, refit and conversion yard in the eastern part of the port of Marseille, at Mourepiane. It was founded in April 2010 by San Giorgio del Porto of Genoa and belongs to the Genova Industrie Navali group, working alongside that sister yard. The company is a societe par actions simplifiee with share capital of 5.2 million euro and employs 110 people, among them naval architects, mechanical engineers, skilled workers and specialised technicians. No newbuilding is carried out.
Three dry docks serve the yard, the largest of them the largest dry dock in the Mediterranean; across the two group yards there are eight. Vessels from mid-range sizes up to the largest afloat are taken. Refit and conversion work is done to order, from renewal of interior spaces to changes in capacity and efficiency upgrades.
Propulsion is a specialism. Work runs from withdrawal of tail shafts and rudders to complete overhaul of thrusters and azimuth pods in the yard's own workshops, carried out with engine and equipment makers as partners. Surface preparation and coating is a group capability, covering paint systems, tank coating and robotic hydro-blasting with ultra-high-pressure water at up to 3,000 bar. Staff are GTT qualified for membrane-type LNG containment repairs.
Cruise work is a visible part of the order book. AIDA Bella came in during January 2026 for modernisation under the AIDA Evolution programme, and earlier projects include Carnival Legend; the Saipem vessels FDS2 and Castorone were handled with San Giorgio del Porto. Quality and environmental management are certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015. In December 2025 the yard opened a training pathway for riggers through its Chantier Academy.
