Baku Shipyard

Baku Shipyard LLC builds, repairs and converts ships on the Caspian shore at Baku, Azerbaijan. The foundation stone was laid on 19 March 2010, the joint venture was founded on 10 May 2011 by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Investment Company and Keppel Offshore & Marine, and the yard was inaugurated on 20 September 2013. It is a company of AZCON Holding, with SOCAR and the Azerbaijan Investment Company shown as shareholders. The one docking facility is the floating dry dock 28 MAY, a steel twin-wing-wall dock with a single pontoon, without propulsion and supplied with power from the shore. It is used both to dock ships for repair and to launch new hulls. It lifts 25,000 tonnes when docking and 18,000 tonnes when transferring, carries two 20-tonne cranes on its top deck and works in winds of up to 26 metres a second. It takes vessels of up to 25,000 tonnes displacement, 34 metres in the beam and drawing no more than 7 metres. A transfer trolley system moves vessels of up to 18,000 tonnes displacement ashore to the repair slab and weighs them, establishing longitudinal and transverse centres of gravity. There is no graving dock and no slipway. The quay carries an average depth of 7 metres. Lifting on the site runs to a 300-tonne gantry crane, two 25-tonne wharf cranes, three mobile cranes of 80 tonnes, two of 50 and one of 30, some forty workshop cranes from 5 to 50 tonnes, two 270-tonne transporters and nine forklifts of up to 10 tonnes. Workshops cover hull, piping, electrical and mechanical work, with a separate painting and blasting shop. Newbuilding covers offshore support vessels, general cargo ships, tugs, crane vessels and tankers. Repair and conversion are stated at a capacity of about 100 vessels a year and take in diving support and offshore supply vessels, deck cargo ships, dredgers, barges, pipelayers, construction support vessels, tugs and jack-up drilling units; the Maersk Explorer and the Castoro 12 are among the named jobs in the repair portfolio.
