ASRY (Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard)

ASRY, the Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard, is a Bahraini yard at Hidd, founded in 1977 and working in a duty-free zone. It employs more than 3,000 people. Its business lines are ship repair and conversion, rig repair and conversion, naval repair and conversion, industrial fabrication, ship recycling and shipbuilding. Ship repair and conversion is the largest of them, with more than 4,120 projects completed in four decades for international owners and managers as well as regional clients. The rig division works for the oil and gas industry on jack-up rigs and barges and has completed close to 200 maintenance, repair, overhaul, conversion and upgrade projects. Naval work is done in dock and alongside for navy and navy support ships operating in the Gulf, and maintenance teams are sent out to regional naval bases. The docking inventory is one graving dock rated at 500,000 dwt, two floating docks and twin slipways; the slipways are the only assets the yard ties to newbuilding. Industrial fabrication occupies more than 205,000 square metres and covers turnkey projects from concept to delivery. Ship recycling is offered for end-of-life vessels, taken apart in dry dock, on a slipway or alongside the quay, with statements of compliance to ISO 30000:2009, the Hong Kong Convention and the EU Ship Recycling Regulation.
