Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Ltd. is one of China's largest builders of mobile offshore drilling units and specialised offshore vessels, with origins traced to the former Yantai Shipyard founded in 1977 and a Singapore-Yantai joint venture established in 1994. After CIMC of Shenzhen acquired full ownership in 2013, the operation became the offshore engineering platform of China International Marine Containers. The Yantai facility, together with sister yards in Haiyang and Longkou in Shandong Province, occupies approximately 1.32 square kilometres and employs roughly four thousand permanent staff with a further eight thousand subcontracted workers. The yards are equipped with the 20,000-tonne Taisun gantry crane, which allows semi-submersible deckboxes and lower hulls to be fabricated in parallel on land and then mated in a single lift, a methodology that has been applied to multiple semi-submersible platforms since 2008. Beyond newbuilding, CIMC Raffles handles repair, modification and life-extension projects on jack-ups, semi-submersibles, FPSO modules, accommodation units, wind-installation vessels and other special-purpose tonnage at its quaysides and graving docks. In-water hull inspections, ultrasonic thickness gauging, magnetic particle and radiographic testing, dye-penetrant examination and remote visual inspection of structural members are carried out by in-house NDT teams supplemented by class-certified subcontractors, supporting underwater surveys and condition monitoring on offshore assets. The yard is a long-standing recognised service supplier under DNV and works routinely with the other IACS societies for class-related inspection scopes, allowing reports produced at the facility to be used directly for periodic and renewal surveys of offshore units.
