Ufudu Marine is a specialized maritime service provider headquartered in South Africa, focused on maintaining vessel performance and environmental compliance through advanced hull cleaning solutions. Operating within the Southern African shipping sector, the company addresses a critical challenge in vessel management: the accumulation of marine biofouling on ship hulls. By removing algae, barnacles, and other marine organisms, Ufudu Marine assists ship operators in reducing drag, thereby improving fuel efficiency and lowering operational costs for vessels calling at major regional ports.
The company’s core operational competency lies in in-water hull cleaning and propeller polishing. Unlike traditional cleaning methods that release debris and invasive species back into the harbor environment, Ufudu Marine utilizes a specialized reclamation approach. The company employs diver-controlled vacuum technologies designed to capture bio-fouling debris at the source. This extracted material is then processed through a multi-stage filtration system on the surface, separating solid waste from the water before the purified water is returned to the ocean. This process ensures that heavy metals from anti-fouling paints and biological contaminants are contained and disposed of responsibly, rather than polluting the port ecosystem.
Ufudu Marine has established an operational footprint in key South African maritime hubs, including the ports of Durban and Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha). Additionally, the company has expanded its services regionally, establishing presence in Namibia to serve vessels in Walvis Bay. This expansion supports the growing traffic in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, offering services to a diverse range of vessels including bulk carriers, tankers, and container ships.
The entity operates with a strong emphasis on regulatory adherence, aligning its procedures with international environmental standards such as those outlined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). By deploying filtration systems that meet strict water quality requirements, Ufudu Marine facilitates in-water maintenance in ports where environmental authorities strictly regulate sediment discharge. Through these services, the company plays a vital technical support role in the regional logistics chain, ensuring that vessels can maintain their schedules and hull integrity without dry-docking.
