Established in 1951 under what is now China's Ministry of Transport, Shanghai Salvage, also operating internationally as China Ocean Engineering Solutions Limited (COES), is the leading rescue, wreck removal and salvage organisation for the southeastern coast of China. Its mandate covers people rescue, recovery of marine property, wreck removal, spilled-oil response and other emergency marine operations, complemented by a strong commercial offshore engineering portfolio. The company is recognised as the only Chinese operator with full saturation diving capability for commercial work, with 200 metre and 300 metre saturation diving systems on permanent stand-by and a verified diving depth record of more than three hundred metres. The diving team performs air, mixed-gas and saturation operations and supports underwater engineering inspections of vessels, offshore platforms, single-point moorings and risers, including the underwater hull inspection and damage survey work demanded for class and casualty investigations. Ultrasonic thickness measurement, hatch cover tightness verification, watertight integrity testing and non-destructive examination of welds and structural members are delivered alongside the diving service by qualified technicians. Beyond inspection, SHANGHAI SALVAGE COMPANY undertakes marine towage, waterway transport of general goods, raising of sunken ships and removal of obsolete offshore platforms across the East China and South China seas. The organisation is recognised as a service supplier by ABS and CCS, so its in-water survey, NDT and tightness-testing reports are accepted for statutory and class purposes on merchant and offshore tonnage operating along the Chinese coast and the wider Asia-Pacific region. The company also maintains a fleet of dedicated salvage tugs, oil-spill response vessels and accommodation barges supporting fast mobilisation across busy Chinese fairways and coastal anchorages on a year-round operational basis.
