Qingdao Beihai Boatbuilding Co., Ltd. is the dedicated life-saving appliance and small craft business associated with Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry, the established shipyard belonging to the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation group. The wider Beihai operation traces its origins back to 1898 and is one of the major shipbuilding and ship-repair enterprises in northern China, occupying more than 330 hectares of land at Haixiwan in the Qingdao Economic and Technical Development Zone with nine kilometres of coastline and almost six kilometres of wharf frontage. The boatbuilding arm began GRP boat and davit production in 2004 and is configured to manufacture up to roughly five hundred lifeboats annually, complementing the group's parallel newbuilding and ship-repair activities on the same site. Product lines include totally enclosed lifeboats, free-fall lifeboats, partially enclosed lifeboats, fast rescue boats and conventional rescue craft built from fibreglass-reinforced plastic, together with associated gravity and slewing davits, free-fall launching arrangements and winches engineered as integrated IMO LSA Code packages. Beyond newbuild supply, Beihai performs periodic LSA testing, lifeboat and rescue boat servicing under IMO MSC.402(96) and MSC/Circ.1206, liferaft servicing through partner stations, davit and launching system overhauls, and lifting appliance and lifting gear surveys. ClassNK has published service-station documentation for the boatbuilding division, and approvals from ABS and Lloyd's Register support newbuild type certification and periodic survey reports for vessels operating worldwide.
