Paleologos SA is a historic Greek enterprise specializing in maritime logistics, shipping agency services, and travel management. Headquartered in Heraklion, Crete, the company has operated for over eight decades, evolving from a traditional family-run shipping office into a comprehensive hub for marine transport and island connectivity. Its roots trace back to 1939, when Panagiotis Paleologos established the business to provide agency services in the port of Heraklion. The founder’s background was deeply entrenched in the sea, stemming from a family of shipowners from the island of Amorgos who navigated the Aegean and Mediterranean carrying cargo and trade goods.
Throughout its history, Paleologos SA has functioned as a vital intermediary in the Greek shipping industry. The company serves as a central port agent and representative for numerous major ferry operators and maritime lines. Its operational scope includes ship handling, husbanding services, and the management of commercial vessels, including high-speed crafts, conventional ferries, and ro-ro ships. By acting as the local authorized agent for leading shipping companies, the firm facilitates the logistical requirements of vessels calling at Cretan ports, ensuring smooth operations for both passenger and freight transport.
In addition to its port agency work, the company is a primary aggregator of maritime travel information and booking services. Recognizing the shift toward digital solutions early in its development, Paleologos SA expanded its capabilities to include extensive electronic reservation systems. These platforms aggregate schedules and ticketing availability for a vast network of ferry routes, connecting the Greek mainland with the Cyclades, Dodecanese, Ionian, and Cretan regions, as well as facilitating international connections to Italy and Turkey.
The organization continues to handle complex travel logistics, offering services that range from issuing ferry tickets for individual travelers and vehicles to managing large group transfers and cargo bookings. Its portfolio extends to supporting cruise excursions and organizing island-hopping itineraries, leveraging its deep knowledge of the local maritime geography. Today, Paleologos SA remains a key fixture in the port of Heraklion, maintaining its long-standing legacy of supporting the operational and commercial needs of the merchant marine and passenger shipping sectors across the Mediterranean.
