Nantong Zhenhua Heavy Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is the Nantong production base of Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., a Chinese state-owned engineering company commonly known by its stock-market designation ZPMC. The facility, established in 2006, is located along the Yangtze River north of Shanghai in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, and forms part of an industrial group widely recognised as the world's leading manufacturer of port container handling cranes and large steel structures. The Nantong site builds and outfits oversized assemblies that are subsequently loaded out to deep-water frontage for sea transport on the group's own heavy-lift carriers. Core product lines manufactured or assembled in Nantong include ship-to-shore container cranes, ship loaders and unloaders, bulk material handling machinery, offshore engineering structures such as wind turbine installation jack-up platforms, floating sheerleg cranes, and large welded steel structures including very large gantry cranes for shipyard use. Recent flagship projects out of Nantong include a 1,000-tonne shipyard gantry crane delivered to Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and a 5,000-tonne floating sheerleg crane built for Drydocks World. Non-destructive examination is integral to the fabrication process, with ultrasonic, magnetic particle and dye penetrant testing applied to primary welds and structural connections in line with ABS class approval. The parent group employs more than twenty thousand staff and at one point accounted for around three-quarters of the global market for container cranes.
