MARDOM

MARDOM, officially known as Marítima Dominicana S.A.S., is the leading provider of integrated maritime and logistics services in the Dominican Republic. Established on March 21, 1971, in Santo Domingo, the company was founded by Karsten Hermann Windeler and Gustavo Tavares Espaillat to improve the Caribbean nation's connectivity with global trade routes. Over more than five decades, the company has evolved from a small shipping agency handling breakbulk vessels into a comprehensive logistics group that serves as a primary link for international commerce entering and exiting the country. Operating as a one-stop-shop for supply chain management, the company maintains a robust presence across the Dominican Republic's entire port infrastructure. It services vessels at eighteen ports, including major hubs such as Rio Haina, Caucedo, and Puerto Plata, as well as five airports and seven administrative offices. This extensive network allows the firm to handle approximately 2,000 vessel calls annually, ranging from container ships and bulk carriers to cruise liners and tankers. The core of the company’s operations lies in its dual role as a shipping agent and port stevedore. Beyond basic vessel representation, it manages complex husbandry services, crew logistics, and port captaincy advisory. The organization has developed specialized expertise in handling diverse cargo types, including heavy lift project cargo for industrial developments and liquid bulk. A significant portion of its operational focus is dedicated to the cold chain sector; the company is a recognized expert in refrigerated cargo logistics, supporting the country's agricultural exports through advanced monitoring, genset rentals, and pre-trip inspections for reefer containers. In response to the modernization of global trade, MARDOM has expanded its portfolio to include freight forwarding, customs brokerage, and inland transportation. It also operates container terminals that provide storage, maintenance, and repair services for empty containers and chassis fleets. To enhance operational efficiency, the company has integrated digital tools such as the MARDOM GO application, allowing clients to track shipments and manage logistics processes remotely. Committed to international standards, the organization holds multiple ISO certifications and has been an active participant in the United Nations Global Compact since 2006, underscoring its focus on sustainable and compliant maritime practices.
