MAK MACHINEFABRIEK BOLIER

Based in Dordrecht, the Netherlands, MAK MACHINEFABRIEK BOLIER is a specialized technical service provider deeply integrated into the global maritime and offshore industries. The company functions as the authorized representative for MaK marine engines in the Benelux region and the Netherlands Antilles, serving as a critical hub for propulsion maintenance, repair, and technical support. Its operations are centered around a purpose-built facility in the Second Merwedehaven, strategically located at a busy water junction near Rotterdam where the Beneden Merwede, Noord, and Oude Maas rivers converge. The company’s history dates back to 1949, when it was founded by Cees Bolier through the acquisition of Machinefabriek Avontuur. While it began as a general machine factory, the firm pivoted toward maritime specialization in the 1950s. By 1955, the company had installed its first MaK engine, and in 1958, it formally secured the official representation for the brand. This long-standing partnership defined the company's trajectory, allowing it to develop extensive technical expertise specific to medium-speed marine diesel engines. Over the decades, the organization expanded its physical footprint, moving to its current location in 1965 to accommodate larger vessels and heavier machinery. Today, the company operates one of the largest specialized workshops for MaK engines in Northwestern Europe. A defining feature of its infrastructure is a 140-meter quay, which allows seagoing vessels, inland ships, and dredging equipment to dock directly alongside the workshop for immediate service. This quayside capability enables efficient logistics for engine overhauls, module replacements, and heavy repairs without the need for intermediate transport. Beyond its headquarters, the company maintains a team of mobile mechanics who deploy globally to service ships in remote ports or at sea, ensuring operational continuity for international shipping fleets. In addition to its core engine competencies, the firm acts as an authorized service partner for Napier and KBB turbochargers, providing a comprehensive range of propulsion support. The organization manages a vast inventory of new and reconditioned parts to expedite turnaround times for dry cargo ships, tankers, ferries, and offshore support vessels. Historically a subsidiary of Pon Holdings, the company underwent a significant corporate transition in mid-2025, integrating into the Zeppelin Group network as part of a broader realignment of Caterpillar and MaK dealership territories in Northern Europe. This shift reinforced its capacity to deliver sustained technical support across the maritime sector.
