Mackay Marine-China, Inc. is the Chinese unit of Mackay Communications, the long-established American marine electronics and communications group that trades commercially as Mackay Marine and is headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina. The wider Mackay network operates more than seventy service stations spanning North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, India and Africa, and performs in excess of seventeen thousand global service attendances on commercial ships each year. In China, Mackay's Shanghai office in the Pudong New Area coordinates technical services across the major commercial ports of Shanghai, Ningbo, Qingdao, Tianjin, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, allowing rapid mobilization of engineers to vessels calling at terminals and anchorages along the Chinese coast. Technical scope concentrates on bridge communication, navigation, safety and anti-pollution electronics, with engineers carrying out Global Maritime Distress and Safety System radio surveys using Inmarsat and Iridium systems, Voyage Data Recorder and Simplified VDR annual performance tests, Automatic Identification System annual inspections, and EPIRB and SART functional testing. The team additionally performs in-water inspection support and NDT and condition-monitoring tasks linked to communication and navigation installations. Mackay Marine received China Classification Society approval in 2013 for marine electronics service work, and is further class-approved by Bureau Veritas, Korean Register, ABS, DNV, Lloyd's Register and RINA, allowing the China operation to issue survey reports that are accepted for statutory radio certificate endorsement. Mackay Marine was also selected by Iridium as a global GMDSS service provider, supporting the rollout of LT-3100S GMDSS systems on Chinese-flagged tonnage.
