Kongsberg Maritime China Ltd. is the Chinese organization of Kongsberg Maritime, a Norwegian marine technology group headquartered in Kongsberg and active worldwide. The first Shanghai office opened in 2003 with twenty-five employees, and the China operation has since grown to roughly five hundred and fifty staff working from four locations in Dalian, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Zhenjiang. The Shanghai head office, situated in the Pudong New District, hosts around one hundred and eighty employees in a six-storey building that includes a sales and project organization together with a training centre equipped with a simulator room and instructor facilities for dynamic positioning operator training and bridge resource training. A dedicated production and engineering facility in Zhenjiang manufactures sensors, mechanical parts, adaptors, cabinet switchboards, transformers and bridge consoles, primarily serving Chinese yards and shipowners while also exporting to Korea, Singapore and other markets. The company's technical portfolio in China spans integrated bridge systems and control centres, deck machinery and cranes, automation and safety systems, propulsion and positioning solutions, dynamic positioning, propellers and thrusters, and tank monitoring, loading computer and stability software. Engineers also conduct VDR annual performance testing, GMDSS equipment servicing and AIS annual inspections on Kongsberg-supplied systems, as well as in-water inspection and pressure vessel checks on associated equipment. Class-approved by ABS and DNV among others, the China operation supports newbuild projects, retrofit programmes and lifecycle maintenance through factory-trained technicians dispatched to shipyards and operating vessels across major Chinese ports.
