Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard Heavy Industry is part of the CSSC Huangpu Wenchong shipbuilding cluster in Guangzhou, one of the principal shipbuilding bases of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation in southern China. The yard traces its history to an original Guangzhou shipyard founded in 1955 and the Huangpu yard, which were reorganised at the end of 2013 into the present CSSC group structure. The site sits between the old and new Huangpu ports on the Pearl River, with building berths, fitting-out quays and steel fabrication shops supporting both military and commercial output, and ABS recognition supports the relevant service scopes.
The yard's main business covers the construction of container vessels, dredgers, special-purpose government ships and heavy-lift vessels. The site is identified within CSSC literature as a key heavy-lift vessel construction base, and the company has delivered units across the semi-submersible, module carrier and offshore segments. Ports machinery, large metallic structures and parts manufacturing are also carried out, taking advantage of the steel fabrication capacity built up across the combined site, with cutting, forming and welding capacity supporting both newbuild and structural repair workflows.
Alongside newbuilding, the yard supports ship repair and conversion work at its Pearl River berths, including pressure vessel inspection on air receivers, hydrophore tanks and cargo-tank associated equipment, together with underwater inspection assignments delivered through class-recognised diving teams. CSSC's group-level strength, which now accounts for around a third of global shipbuilding output, gives the yard access to engineering, design and procurement resources that support repeat orders from international owners and Chinese state-owned operators trading on the Pearl River Delta and along the South China coast.
