Guangzhou Shipyard International Company is a modern integrated state-owned shipbuilder in southern China and a member of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) group. Founded in 1954, the company is now part of CSSC Offshore & Marine Engineering Group (COMEC) and operates its main shipbuilding base on Longxue Island in the Nansha Free Trade Zone, neighbouring Hong Kong and Macau. The Nansha yard covers around 2.53 million square metres and is equipped with two 300,000 dwt dry docks, four 600-tonne gantry cranes and a 900-tonne gantry crane, five VLCC berths and two 50,000 dwt slipways. ABS, CCS, DNV, KR and Bureau Veritas approvals support newbuilding and repair scopes. The yard engages in the construction and trading of vessels, manufacturing of steel structures and mechanical and electrical equipment, container transportation services and a wide range of ship repair activities. Newbuild output covers car carriers, semi-submersible heavy-lift vessels, chemical tankers and bulk carriers. Repair scopes include ultrasonic hatch cover testing, watertight integrity testing, vibration analysis and balancing, noise and vibration measurement, ballast water management system commissioning and service, underwater inspection and NDT and remote inspection assignments. Steel renewal, machinery overhauls and class-driven surveys are performed in the same docks used for newbuilding work. The orderbook reflects strong international demand: published reports indicate contracts in hand close to one hundred billion yuan, with the yard scheduled into the latter part of the decade and a majority of recent orders originating from overseas clients. Recent deliveries have included LNG dual-fuel car carriers for international charterers, with vessel owners trading through the Pearl River Delta and South China Sea among the customers of Guangzhou Shipyard International.
