Guangzhou Diving School was founded in 1985 as a full-time vocational institution under the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China, with teaching affairs jointly administered through the Department of Education of Guangdong Province. The campus stands in Haizhu District on South Zhou Road next to Yingzhou Ecological Park, occupying purpose-built training facilities that include diving pools, decompression chambers and shore-based simulators. The school remains the only full-time diving school in China and holds membership in the Confederation Mondiale des Activites Subaquatiques and the China Underwater Sport Association. Four resident programmes cover engineering diving, tourism diving, rated able seaman and rated engineer specialisations, taught by instructors who hold commercial diving and seamanship qualifications. Designation as the Civil Diving Personnel Training Centre of the Ministry of Transport, together with status as the China Classification Society training centre for underwater welding, cutting and underwater testing, allows the school to certify divers who staff in-water survey teams for CCS-classed ships. Further accreditations cover ship crew education and training and professional skills assessment for both the Ministry of Transport and the Guangdong labour and social security authorities. Cumulative graduate output had passed two thousand qualified diving and maritime personnel by 2025, and Guangzhou Diving School has contributed one project to the national science and technology achievements database.
