Dalian COSCO Khi Ship Engineering Co., Ltd., known internationally as DACKS, is a major Chinese shipbuilding enterprise established on 18 July 2007 as a joint venture between China Ocean Shipping Group, the parent of today's COSCO Shipping, and Kawasaki Heavy Industries of Japan. Located at Dalian Lvshun, the yard covers around 1.88 million square metres of land, 440,000 square metres of building area, 1.66 million square metres of water, and around 1,955 metres of coastline, supporting an annual newbuild capacity of approximately 2.4 million deadweight tons.
Construction capability covers very large crude carriers, very large ore carriers, large size bulk carriers, container ships with capacity above 10,000 TEU, pure car and truck carriers in the 6,200-unit class, LNG carriers, and other large-scale high-performance merchant vessels. The yard operates two large dry docks, one of which extends to seven hundred metres and is among the longest in China, supported by heavy lift cranes and modern outfitting infrastructure. Marine technical work delivered or coordinated through the yard includes hull ultrasonic thickness gauging, hatch cover ultrasonic tightness testing, watertight integrity verification, non-destructive testing, and underwater inspection during periodic survey, post-repair verification, and pre-delivery acceptance.
DACKS works to the classification rules of the major international societies, including the American Bureau of Shipping, Bureau Veritas, the China Classification Society, DNV, Lloyd's Register, ClassNK, the Korean Register of Shipping, and RINA, supporting international shipowners with newbuilding programmes that include LNG-fueled VLCCs and other dual-fuel and decarbonisation-ready vessels. The Lvshun base on the southern tip of the Liaodong peninsula provides direct access to North Asian sea routes.
