CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Company Limited is a major Guangzhou-based shipbuilder and ship repair operator within the China State Shipbuilding Corporation group. Established originally in 1851 as Cooper Dock, the enterprise reached its current form in 2016 through the consolidation of the historic Huangpu and Wenchong yards. The Guangzhou production base is among the principal yards in South China for naval surface vessels, government craft, dredging vessels, feeder container ships, and offshore engineering tonnage.
Activities at the Wenchong production area in Huangpu District cover around 700,000 square metres with more than 1,500 metres of coastline, three dry docks rated at 25,000, 70,000 and 150,000 deadweight tons, and one 25,000-deadweight-ton slipway. The yard repairs sixteen vessel types, including container ships, bulk carriers, oil and chemical tankers, passenger ships, and specialised cargo carriers. Marine technical services delivered or coordinated at the yard include hatch cover ultrasonic tightness testing, hull ultrasonic thickness gauging, watertight integrity verification, non-destructive testing, and underwater inspection in cooperation with attending classification society surveyors during periodic survey and post-repair verification campaigns.
The company is a major production base for navy vessels, special engineering ships, and offshore engineering projects in southern China, and leads the country in construction of dredging vessels and feeder container tonnage. Huangpu Wenchong operates to the classification rules of the China Classification Society and the major international societies including ABS, BV, DNV, Lloyd's Register, the Korean Register of Shipping, and ClassNK, supporting international shipowners with newbuilding, conversion, and repair work at the Pearl River Delta port cluster.
