Chongqing Chuandong Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. was founded in 1966 and operates two production bases in Chongqing, the major inland city on the upper Yangtze River that serves as one of the principal inland shipbuilding and repair centres in southwest China. The company is a subsidiary of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and its two yards cover approximately 1.54 million and 0.87 million square metres respectively along the riverside, supporting both new construction and ship-repair work on inland and coastal tonnage. Vessel types delivered by the yard include chemical tankers, passenger ships, engineering vessels and other small to mid-size commercial ships generally under 10,000 deadweight tonnes, with particular focus on small-size chemical tankers, alongside steel structures and components supplied to thermal power and other industrial projects. Alongside new-building work the yard provides ship-repair attendance including ultrasonic hatch-cover testing on weather-deck closures of cargo ships, watertight integrity verification on bulkheads and door arrangements where SOLAS tightness requirements apply, and non-destructive testing scopes covering ultrasonic, magnetic-particle, dye-penetrant and visual examination of welds and structural members during construction, repair and periodical inspection. The firm has accumulated over eighty patents covering ship-related technologies. Chuandong Shipbuilding is recognised as a service supplier by the China Classification Society, allowing reports from tightness and NDT campaigns to be considered during periodical, intermediate and special surveys on commercial tonnage attended at the Chongqing yards and along the upper and middle Yangtze trading routes. The yard also supports periodical inspection campaigns during dry-docking and afloat repair, allowing inland and coastal owners to coordinate construction, repair and class attendance at a single facility.
