China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. is a shipbuilding and ship repair enterprise of the China Merchants industrial portfolio, operating from facilities in the Haimen Economic Development Zone in Nantong, on the north bank of the Yangtze estuary. The yard, with origins tracing back to 1952, undertakes new construction of special vessels, offshore engineering equipment and other tonnage, alongside a developed ship repair, conversion and modernisation business serving bulk carriers, tankers, offshore support vessels and specialised cargo ships. Multiple drydocks and quay facilities accommodate vessels of significant length, supporting hull repairs, engine overhauls, ballast water treatment system retrofits and general marine maintenance. Within the broader yard organisation, technical service teams carry out non-destructive testing and tightness or barrier testing scopes required during repair periods, including ultrasonic hatch cover testing, watertight integrity testing and weld inspection using ultrasonic, magnetic particle, dye penetrant and visual techniques. These activities support class survey attendance and steel renewal work executed under the rules of the China Classification Society. As an established CCS-recognised facility, the Haimen yard works closely with attending surveyors, owners representatives and superintendents to deliver inspection reports, repair specifications and completion documentation consistent with classification and statutory requirements. The Jiangsu yard draws on the engineering, procurement and project management resources of the wider parent group to coordinate complex repair and conversion projects on tight schedules. The Yangtze location allows convenient access for international tonnage trading to North Asia, while CCS-aligned NDT and tightness testing capability supports a comprehensive package of dry-docking services for commercial vessels active in the region.
